As we all continue to work remotely, CatalogIt has been hard at work implementing new features to make your work day easier and more productive. We know many of you are still working from home and are looking for more ways to make the most of your days and care for your collections. We hope these new features help you.
For all plans, we’ve created new expansion panels to record all the details about the Accessories related to objects in your collection (such as frames, mounts, pedestals, etc) as well as a new Edition panel to document those details as well. You will also find significant improvements to our Textile and Clothing classifications - allowing you to add more succinct detail to those records. Last, we have added the capability for users to upload Word and Excel files into all collection records. While you cannot preview these documents in CatalogIt yet, you can currently download them to your device and view and share them. We’ll be adding the ability to index these documents for search purposes and preview them within CatalogIt in the future- the ability to store these documents with the associated objects is a great organizational tool. It is always best to upload a non-editable PDF whenever possible, but we know sometimes you need to include a Word document or a spreadsheet.
For our museum and organizational users, we have added a new Reproductions expansion panel to track the information on the photographic reproductions of your collection material - this is a great compliment to our existing “Copyright” panel.
In this age of social distancing, as museums and galleries are beginning to reopen, we all need to think about creative ways to engage our visitors from a safe distance. Thinking through how to ensure that museum visitors will get all the information they need on your collection without crowding around an exhibition label creates an opportunity to rethink how our information is delivered. Introducing the CatalogIt HUB and the QR code! The CatalogIt HUB, an easy way to share your collections on the Web, is a feature included with all paid subscriptions.
Imagine your visitor, enabled with their own smartphone (no external equipment to sanitize) scanning a QR code at the entry of the gallery and Viola! Every object in that gallery appears via the CatalogIt HUB! All the information you want to share for each work (and none of the info you don’t), including the image, interpretive label, credit lines, etc. is right there at your visitors’ fingertips. You can also integrate the QR code in each object label. Better yet, print a simple handout and anyone with a smartphone can use their camera or free downloaded QR code reader, to look at all the info and collections from your museum or their own home and share it with their family or friends. It is as simple as that.

The Basque Museum & Cultural Center was initially established in 1985 as a small museum in the historic Cyrus Jacobs-Uberuaga Boarding House at 607 Grove Street in scenic Boise, Idaho. The Basque Museum & Cultural Center provides a look into the heritage of the Basque communities not only in Idaho, but across the American West. Through hard work and the support of many individuals, businesses, foundations, and Basque communities and organizations, the Museum began to interpret the rich and colorful history of the Basques, their origins, and their new life in America.
As artifact donations and exhibit development increased, so did the need for more space, and in 1993 the Museum moved its primary operations to 611 Grove Street. Displays, classrooms, a library, a kitchen and a Museum Store became part of the renewed space. Over the years, thanks to many dedicated people, the Museum has grown tremendously in facilities and services and has become an Idaho cultural institution and a cornerstone for maintaining and promoting Basque culture.
